Keystitch — Terms

Version 1 · Effective September 7, 2026

The short version. Keystitch is licensed to you under Apple's standard app license agreement — we haven't written our own. This page adds, in writing, the promises we make to members, so they can't drift from what we said when you joined.

1. The license

When you download Keystitch from the App Store, your use of the app is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "standard EULA"), which you accepted with your Apple Account:

https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

Apple's Media Services Terms cover payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds. Nothing on this page takes away anything those agreements give you. If anything here ever conflicts with them, they win.

2. Who we are

Keystitch is made by Joshua Lucan, California. Questions and problems: hello@keystitch.net. We answer every message ourselves.

3. What's free

Everyone gets every drill, every level and every mode. A free student gets a one-time opening bank of 60 minutes of practice, then 4 minutes a day — counted only while a question is on screen, so a short session uses less than it feels like. The app shows your remaining minutes before every round, and a round that has started always finishes.

We may change the free allowance in a future version. If we do, the app will show the new allowance before you start a round; we'll never hide a limit.

4. Membership

There is one membership, paid monthly or yearly, sold only through Apple's in-app purchase. Members practice without a time limit. Prices are shown in the app, in your local currency, before you buy.

Apple bills you. Membership renews automatically until you cancel it in your Apple Account settings, at least a day before the renewal date. Refunds are Apple's: we never see your payment details and cannot issue refunds ourselves — Apple's process is at https://support.apple.com/HT204084, and we'll point you there if you write to us.

Restoring a purchase on a new device is Apple's "Restore Purchases," available in the app's Membership settings.

5. Original Members — the first one thousand

The first 1,000 people who redeem our public code get Keystitch on iPhone free, for life.

What "for life" means. Everything the iPhone app does now and everything it ever does — every drill, every level, every feature we ever add to it — with no time limit, no renewal, and nothing to pay, for as long as the app exists. "The app" means this iOS app under whatever name it carries, wherever this same app runs.

What it doesn't cover. Anything beyond this app is a separate product with its own price — a Mac companion app, a website, whatever else we build. Original Members will get the Early Adopter price on each of those when they exist (§6) — not the products for free.

How it's kept. Redeeming the code adds a free, permanent purchase to your Apple Account (Apple calls it a non-consumable). It restores on any device signed in with that Apple Account. It belongs to that Apple Account and can't be transferred or sold, and it isn't shared through Family Sharing.

The count. Apple counts redemptions and closes the code at 1,000. When it's gone, it's gone: we will not reissue this rung, reopen the code, or offer "free for life" again.

Never narrowed. We will never reduce what an existing Original Member has. If we ever need to change what new people get, the change applies only to people who join after it's announced — never to anyone who already holds the grant.

If the app were ever sold. If we ever transfer Keystitch to a new owner, honouring every Original Member on these terms is a condition of the sale.

If the app were ever shut down. We intend to keep Keystitch going for a very long time. If it were ever withdrawn from the App Store for good, we would give at least 90 days' notice here and in the app. The grant ends only when the app itself does, and not before.

Beta Crew. The people who tested Keystitch before launch hold the same grant, under the name Beta Crew, through a private code that isn't counted against the thousand.

6. The Early Adopter price

The membership prices you see today are the Early Adopter price. It will go up — we expect substantially.

If you subscribe at the Early Adopter price, your price stays yours for as long as your subscription stays continuously active, through every increase we ever make. Apple keeps the price on your subscription; nothing renews you at a higher rate.

Two things to know, because Apple's system works this way:

This is a promise about your price, not about anyone else's. We may offer different prices to other people — students, schools, later groups, people in other countries — without touching yours.

7. Changes to this page

Every version of this page is dated at the top; as we publish new versions, old ones stay available at keystitch.net/terms/versions.

8. Under 18

Keystitch is for anyone learning music. It isn't directed at children, and it collects no personal information from anyone — see our privacy policy at keystitch.net/privacy. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should read this page with you; purchases go through the parental controls on your Apple Account.

9. Offer code terms

Apple requires these lines wherever one of our codes is shared. They apply to the Original Member code and to every code we ever publish:
